<description descriptionType="Abstract">The ClimEx project is based on a longstanding collaboration between Bavaria and Québec to address common issues related to climate change impacts, notably in hydrology. In the scope of this project, a 50-member ensemble of climate-change simulations was produced using the Canadian Regional Climate Model (CRCM5) driven by the CanESM2 global model from 1950 to 2100 under RCP8.5. The 50 simulations differ by slight perturbations in the initial conditions of CanESM2, thus allowing to explore independent trajectories of the natural climate variability and to study extreme events with return periods of hundreds of years. Dynamical downscaling with CRCM5 was performed over two regional domains, namely Europe and northeastern North America, which are defined using a 12-km resolution grid mesh. Model results (over 50 variables) for each domain were outputted on an analysis grid of 280x280 points with an archival time period that varies between one hour (for precipitation only), three hours (e.g., surface-air temperature) and one day (e.g., daily maximum wind speed).
