Creating 3D Printing File

You will find here a small tutorial to create 3D printing files out of your 3D images !

A. Create a 3D binary Image

A.1 Using Imaris

  1. Open a 3D image : for this tutorial, in the Imaris Install folder (on BIOP computers : C:\Program Files\Bitplane\Imaris x64 7.6.5\) go to folder /images/ select celldemo.ims.
  2. Create a Surface.
  3. Convert the Surface to a Binary Channel.
  4. Export the Binary Channel .
    1. FileSave As... ,
    2. Select a folder
    3. Specify Type Open Microscopy Environment TIFF
    4. Save

A.2 Using any other software

B. Create .Obj

  1. Open the Binary Channel in FIJI
  2. Save as Wavefront OBJ file : FileSave AsWavefront .OBJ
    1. Select your image in the dropdown menu
    2. Resampling factor : 1
    3. OK
    4. Select the destination folder
    5. Specify a name
    6. Save

C. 3D printing

Open in your favorite printing software


and Start the printing !
